Ruslan Karablin is the owner of SSUR, which actually stands for Russ backwards for an abbreviation of his name, and for his Russian Heritage. The brand was est. in 1990 in New York with a Coney Island influence due to that is where Ruslan is from. With an artist point of view on the designs, SSUR produced very artist driven products. Inspired by imperial art such as, Keith Haring and Stussy, Karablin strives to offer deeper concepts and meanings to his clothes instead of merely creating a skin-deep commercial street wear brand. It was only in recent times that SSUR broke the mainstream scene with its notorious COMME des FUCKDOWN—a design language that was conceived nearly a decade ago and have gotten significant acceptance, thanks to the hype from street wear lovers and music influencers. Being championed by Rocky and Ye, the diffusion line soared and glided to success with bold and subversive aesthetics that were clearly leaning towards the fashion parody movement.
The brand carries goods from t-shirts to kangol caps to shoes. Ruslan also offers a museum in all his store locations for artist to showcase their work there. He is completely artist driven and has truly made an impact on the art world.
